Hojo Jitsu
Ropes and Knots, Samurai
Style
Hojo Jitsu is what the Japanese police and soldiers
used to use before handcuffs had been invented.
The art of securing a prisoner was very important; because if
you hadn't killed him already, you'd be keeping him alive for a
purpose - probably interrogation, and maybe then a trial.
Nobody wanted a dangerous prisoner running loose, so the
Japanese developed this system of Hojo Jitsu using just ropes
and knots to hold the strongest man totally helpless. It also
allowed them to lead the bound prisoner along, walking at the
end of a rope.
Hojo Jitsu is very much a traditional martial art, it is not a
WAY like Judo or Kendo, it is a fighting art like Ju Jitsu or
Ken Jitsu.
Most teachers will only accept you as a student if you are
already a black belt in a formal style they respect. Hojo Jitsu
is serious stuff, and very formal and disciplined.
