Aikido Demonstrations
Aikido demonstrations are the time-honored
way for teachers to recruit new students.
Word of mouth will bring in some students, and so will paid
advertising; but nothing beats live aikido demonstrations for
reaching out to the public.
You can always write a letter to the editor of
your local newspaper announcing that you'll be putting on
an Aikido demonstration or maybe running a self defense
course.
If they're a small newspaper, the chances are pretty high
they'll get an advertising rep to call you and try to cajole
you into buying some advertising.
This won't be too bad as long as you bargain back with them to
send along a photographer and take some pictures, and for them
to publish an article to go with a picture or two with
guaranteed publication in their rag, er, esteemed
publication.
You could write about a dozen paragraphs yourself and submit
it. Let their sub-editor change it to suit. You'll find it
brings in more students than an advertisement on its own ever
could.
Any Aikido demonstrations you organize will add to public
interest, as long as they are at popular events - like school
fairs etc.
