Junanahon no Kata
The Junanahon no Kata is the basic training
techniques of Shodokan Aikido, otherwise known as Tomiki
Aikido.

They are usually referred to as the Randori no Kata, or the
'Kata of Seventeen'. The techniques were chosen for Randori
practice, where students practising the Tomiki method of Aikido
can get pretty fierce with each other.
It's committed attacking, but the spirit is friendly,
believe it or not. It's true sport because the guy attacking
you wants to win, sure. But he'll also be happy for you when
you manage to throw him.
That's a great way to train, and for me that is true
sportsmanship.
Unlike traditional Aikido, the Tomiki style (also called
Shodokan Aikido) is very similar to Judo. They both have
this Randori practice - up to the level of full
Tournament Competition, or Shiai.
Some Tomiki schools have Shiai, and others don't. It's
really up to the teacher.
