Steps To Learn Aikido

Your first steps to learn Aikido involve doing a bit of
research. Read a book about it, but not too many. Not yet. And
go find a dojo in your area.
Go and watch an Aikido class, that's the second 'Must Do' in
your steps to learn Aikido. Find a class, go and watch the
whole thing. Talk to the instructor, and be polite and
non-commital at this stage. The teacher shouldn't mind, and if
he tries to persuade you to sign up then and there, I'd suggest
you want away fast.
Now find another Aikido dojo, if one exists.
And if there isn't another Aikido dojo, just go along and watch
a Judo class or some other martial art. You want to have some
reference points to help you compare and evaluate. That's the
third of your steps to learn Aikido.
Once you have seen a few different classes, and preferably
styles as well, it's time to choose. Go with your gut feeling
about the people. That's what I'd do. Buy a Keigo-Gi
after the instructor tells you what type to buy. It will
probably be a Judo-gi with a white belt, but let him (or her)
tell you which.
Now you have a dojo and an instructor, it's all up to you. You
need to turn up to every training session and work hard. Do
what your teacher and fellow students show you to do... The
rest of the steps to learn Aikido will follow naturally from
there. Enjoy your journey!
