Self Defense Moves

Here are some self defense moves, which could save your life.

They could also get you into trouble if you use them at the wrong time, so save them for a real emergency when someone is trying to injure you.

Why? Self defense moves demonstrated in Melbourne by Prof Tomiki and John Gay.Because self defense moves like this will do real damage to the other person, and once you start hurting the guy, you can't afford to stop until he's down on the ground.

You can't go leaping into self-defense mode right away. You've got to try other options if they exist, such as running away. That's cool. You get to go home without an ambulance, and so does he.

You're also expected to use words first, like projecting your voice strongly and telling the guy to "Back Off, Now! Or I'm going to defend myself!"

If you cannot get away, and the guy won't stop. Then you have to escalate to physical self defense. And once that starts, one or both of you are going to be hurt, or injured. Know that.

If he only wants your purse or wallet, hand it over. You aren't Bruce Lee and this is real life, not a movie.

I seriously suggest you find a martial arts school and enrol in a self-defense course.

But if the guy threatening you is out to hurt, rape or kill you, then you have to fight. This is no-holds-barred. It's not martial arts. It is trying to stay alive and in one piece.

Kick for his shins and kneecaps. Punch him in the groin, or grab there and twist. Use your knee to his groin. And if he bends over, knee him in the face. Jab your fingers in his eyes or up his nostrils. Grab an ear and rip. Grab one of his hands with both of yours and pull two fingers in opposite directions until they break.

All of these basic self defense moves will hurt the other guy, and with luck you may be able to knock him down and get away.

Of course it's better to be trained.

Don't rely on a list like this as being enough, because it's not.

Join a self defense class in your area. Get a trained instructor to show you some basic self defense moves, and then practise them with a friend - so they stay fresh in your mind.
