Pressure Point Fighting

... and Hi, from Bossier City, Louisiana.

More excerpts from my August 2004 Aikido eLetter...

My name is Cody, and I'm a 4th KYU in American Freestyle martial arts.

I was looking throught the web trying to learn more about pressure points when I found that you entered a comment on one of the many pages I was at, and I decided to ask you if you would share what you know.

Personally, I'm very interested in pressure points and how they work, and what they do to the parts of the body. This topic has intrigued me for some time. I know they work, and how to execute them and I just wanted to ask if you could tell me a few more to add to my data-base (in my head).

Cody R.

Dear Cody,

While it is useful to know and understand some of the pressure points, you need to understand that they are very hard to target in a real fight.

John Gay Sensei who taught in Melbourne, Australia, used to invite challengers to try and hit his vital points. And when they tried to attack him, he evaded them every time.

Remember, Aikido people don't stand still and wait to be hit. We move out of the way!

I sincerely suggest you decide on a recognised martial art Japanese, Chinese, Filipino or whatever. Stop wasting time on the Web and go to training classes three times a week (or more) for a couple of years.

Then decide where you want to go from there.

David
