Aikido, Martial Arts and Aikido Articles
#2 My second collection of Martial Arts pages
There are so many martial arts and fighting systems from all
over the world that it often amazes me... That is until I
reflect on the fact that there have always been wars and
warriors (soldiers), and there have also always been violent
people who would take advantage of the weak.
There are people in professions of violence (soldiers,
police officers) who have the function of protecting those who
need protection; and in most democratic societies that works
quite well.
But even in the best of countries under the most
enlightened political systems, the police who enforce the
law often have great difficulty balancing hard and soft. Too
hard and it's cries of "Police brutality!" -- but too soft, and
they can end up in hospital or in a morgue. It happens here in
Australia, and I am sure it happens wherever you live.
Some of us like to be able to look after ourselves, and
enjoy learning these martial arts skills, whether for self
defense reasons or for sport. You'll find a little bit of
everything in here, so please enjoy.
