Check the phone directory, the Internet, and ask for word-of-mouth recommendations for self defense schools and martial arts classes in your neighborhood. Go and visit a couple of them each week until you have seen several that you think you would be happy to join. Speak to the instructors and, if possible, to some of the students as well. Use your female instincts to feel the vibes of these people. How do they behave (especially when they don't think you are observing them). Ask questions, and don't join the first school you see. The judge delayed setting a hearing for the restraining order. Unfortunately, even a restraining order would not have saved her life. Martial Arts in this drive by murder would not have saved her life. What could have saved her life is if she had access and the right to a sidearm and was trained to fire upon her attacker. Our Constitution guarantees U.S. Citizens the right to keep and bear arms. Every American has this right. Progressives (Liberal Fascist traitors) are seeking to eliminate that right. One might bring up Columbine... Well those misguided students were doing what the were taught. Dramatic? Yes. They murdered on Adolph Hitler's birthday. Hitler was a liberal evolutionist and the murdering children were wearing "natural selection" tee shirts. Hitler really thought he was doing mankind a favor by facilitating natural selection. If the teachers at Columbine were permitted their Constitutional right they could have stopped the threat of the murders within minutes and saved many lives. What about Virginia Tech? The question is not whether firearms were available to the murderer, the question is why were firearms NOT available to teachers or other staff? Many lives could have been saved. The murderer could have been shot dead within minutes. Unfortunately we live in an insane world. Dr. Rossiter, a psychiatrist correctly diagnosed liberals as "mentally ill". As a disabled person, I know how vulnerable someone can feel especially in an environment where some States ruled by Progressives (Communist Traitors) hate our Constitution so much that they seek to limit areas where we have the ability and access to protect our lives with concealed carry firearms. There are a finite number of attack scenarios that could occur and there are enough of the basic types that could be addressed. You may wish to contract for private lessons to construct a portfolio of these scenarios for yourself. Having done that please never feel over-confident, be aware of your surroundings. You do not identify your gender which may affect the type of scenario attacks but regardless of gender understand there is no part of the human body more sensitive than the eyes. It does not make any difference if your attacker is as big or as strong as the Biblical Samson, if he can't see, you are free. This by the way is the mantra of my female student class. "if he can't see, I am free; if he can't see, I am free; if he can't see, I am free". On a side-bar::: balance, interestingly is one of my challenges. I chose Aikido as it seems to demand a greater balance and training of the mind for fluid body dynamics. It also teaches to measure your response to the perceived severity of the attack. In the event of an attempted rape, anything at all that can be done to disable, permanently if possible is appropriate and moral. On the other hand an insult at a bar, the best defense is to run. Yes, run. Running away is a very honorable and effective martial art move. It can possibly preserve your life as well as the life of your attacker. Running away is honorable. Personally when I train women I help them understand that if they are attacked their attacker has surrendered his/her life. Unfortunately in this society even a rapist is REWARDED for murdering the victim as the penalty for murder is just a few more years than rape. Unfortunately it is to the attackers advantage to murder the victim. Even if there is no murder, I teach women to understand their life may be over anyway due to the proliferation of INCURABLE STD's and many of those lead to cancer and if not cancer, it destroys their ability to either have children or even have healthy sexual relations as they would pass on the dangerous STD. Many of the women I teach when they understand what is at stake understand that no matter what the nature of the attack/rape, their life is over. Therefore, understanding this they have no problem with my training which teaches them that when attacked, they will have the opportunity at some point in the attack to remove at least one of the eyeballs of their attacker. They learn to realize that once their attacker is blind for life, they can walk, not run, but walk away from their attacker and feel good about the fact that they have taken back their life, the life of their unborn children should they choose, and the life of their mate should they choose. The bottom line? They have retained their ability to choose. The question is: "Do all women who have been taught self defense think and act like this?" YOU BET. I WORK VERY VERY HARD TO HELP THEM TO THINK AND ACT THIS WAY. NO ONE... NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO ATTACK WOMEN... AND I AS A TEACHER AM PROUD OF MY FEMALE STUDENTS WHO ARE WELL PREPARED MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY TO CAUSE ANY DAMAGE NECESSARY TO DISABLE THEIR ATTACKERS.
