Stun devices are electronic gadgets that put out a high-voltage shock of electricity. By merely touching a person with the tip of your stun gun, the attacker is “zapped” with an electric shock that puts his muscles into spasm and drains him of energy. This should immobilize the person for several minutes, yet it does the attacker no permanent damage, the manufacturers say.

This should give you time to get away or to summon help.

The down side of electric stun devices is that you’ve got to be very close to the very same person you consider to be a danger to you.

The last place you want is to be in some wrestling match where the other person is trying to get the stun gun out of your hand so they can zap you with it.

Some stun guns are disguised to look like innocent objects, like a cellphone, for example. Other stun weapons may look like clubs,  batons or billy clubs, such as those the police may use.

Stun batons can be used for hitting someone as well. They are too large to conceal easily, but they look more intimidating.

This extra length of a baton stun gun gives you a little more reach and, what’s that saying? You can ‘reach out and touch someone today…’

Not very friendly, for sure. But zapping someone with a stun device is much better than having them reach out and get you!
