A lady friend asked me recently about women’s self defense against men. I showed her a couple of Aikido techniques, but she stopped me. She said, David, ‘These locks take time to learn… Give me some simple self defense techniques that are quick and dirty. Something any girl or woman can use’.
So we spent some time experimenting with a few grabs, releases and holds for several attempted rape self defense situations, when a girl or woman gets attacked by a man.
We all know the first thing in self defense … women are taught to kick a guy in the groin. But most men expect you to try this, so your chances aren’t the best unless you are quicker than he is. And then you’d better hit or kick really hard.
The man has has more strength, almost always.
If you try to pit your strength against his strength, then you will lose. But he will enjoy the one-sided ‘contest’, and it will add to his pleasure when he rapes or hurts you.
So, whatever you do, you’ve got to be effective.
Your first line of defense should be to verbally aggressive; face him and shout, ‘Keep Back!’ (You do this nice and loud for the benefit of any witnesses.)
If this doesn’t work, let your fear turn to anger… Your adrenaline to inner strength.You are now going to have to hurt or even damage him.
How about you relax initially and let him grab you. Don’t resist. Then reach for his family jewels all friendly-like, then squeeze his testicles and twist. Hard.
You’re fighting now, so fight. There is no turning back.
The moment you hurt him and he loosens his grip, that’s your time to ATTACK more, and do some damage in your self defense efforts. Women kick him in the groin again, or if you can knock him over, kick him in the head. Use your elbow to his stomach or solar-plexus (get someone to show you where this is).
These are all effective self defense moves that any woman or girl can use against a male attacker.
Other self defense tricks you can do are to use your mouth. You’ve got teeth, so be a wild animal. You’re a Tigress! BITE HIM! His ears, nose and neck are all very sensitive and vulnerable, and so are his private parts for that matter. You can also use your fingers and thumbs to go for his eyes. Jab. Rake. Grab an ear; twist and rip.
Once the man is down on the ground and hurting too much to move, then you make sure he won’t get up in a hurry. Stomp his knee or his ankle to get a bone break. Then you can make your way to safety. Get rid of your high heels if you’re wearing them, and walk… do not run.
Remember, don’t ever try to directly resist strength against strength. That’s not going to work.
So use your brains against his brawn, and you’ll come through alright.
You can find a friend or partner and rehearse doing these self-defense moves with them. Take turns and do things slowly and safely. But keep your balance at all times, and visualize how you would inflict damage if it ever came to a real self defense situation.
The ‘dirty tricks’ listed above can seriously injure the person they are done to, but you have to do them VERY HARD. No half-measures.
However, you should never do them unless it’s for real, and be ready to stand up in court of law afterwards and explain to the judge or jury why you had no other option but to defend yourself.
