Kenji Tomiki was a master of Judo and Aikido, and blended his knowledge of both to create Shodokan Aikido.
Morihei Ueshiba created Aikido from several martial arts he had learned, including Daito Ryu Jujitsu, and turned it into a whole new system intended to bring harmony, rather than destruction.
Tomiki style Aikido was named after Kenji Tomiki Sensei. It is now known as Shodokan Aikido, because that is the name of Tomiki’s home dojo in Osaka.
