Kotegaeshi breakfalls are when you leap over your own arm while it is being twisted to prevent an arm break. But you sometimes have to accept a hard fall to make your escape.
With side breakfalls, you don’t have two arms free to slap the mat. Sometimes you won’t slap at all.
Here are some of the things I have learned over the years as both a martial arts student and as an instructor at my own clubs. These tips may save you from grief, and I hope they do just that.
