  1. Those guys are amazing! I wish I could find a modern teacher at that skill level. I can tell just by how they go through basic exercises they have immense skill.

  2. Master-General of Aikido, hahaha!
I love those amateurish 50s films.
    Great historical document, thanks.

  4. I can’t thank you enough for posting this. If you know how I can obtain this video please pm me

  5. I have this video but without the sound. The narration was originally in Japanese I thought, I wonder when this english translation was done. The video is from the mid-1960’s (not the 50’s).

  6. This is the first time I’ve seen Koichi Tohei…

He’s great – I now have a new respect for “Ki” Aikido

  7. Why do these inept, amateur George Lucas wanna-be’s feel the need to trash up a perfectly good aikido video with inane music? The commentary would be more appropriate for a Ki Aikido TV Commercial. Oh well, at least it has Koichi Tohei.

  8. @plunker49 Up From the beginning of talking pictures until even the early 1970s this was a typical format for documentary and educational films throughout the world. Including this sort of music. You can still see the documentary style in some countries. Be thankful such movies were produced at all to show all these years later the styles of the school.

  10. This is not Ki-Aikido Material, just plain Aikido, Koichi Tohei sensei developed Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido after the death of O-sensei Morihei Ueshiba. The departure from the Ueshiba family occured after the death of O-sensei but as you can see Kisshomaru Ueshiba (O-sensei’s Son) compiled this video (see 01:27). This is an Aikikai Aikido video, all of the presented techniques and exercises are still practiced by Aikikai Hombu Dojo instructors and recognised Dojo’s(by Hombu Dojo) all over the world
